An overview of Guidewire Underwriting Management

Guidewire Underwriting Management is a modern, comprehensive underwriting management suite that consolidates all the tools, risk information, third-party data, and reports that underwriters and producers need to collaborate productively on risk assessment decisions so that they can focus on risk analysis and close more business in less time. With Underwriting Management, users can streamline and optimize the underwriting processes across the enterprise to achieve faster and more accurate underwriting and to improve service to producers and policyholders.

The Guidewire Underwriting Management suite consists of the following components:
  • Underwriting Management is the main underwriting application that enables efficient, collaborative, and profitable underwriting by automating repetitive tasks and capturing best practices to enable sharing information. Using the workflow-driven interface, you can move a submission from the draft stage through rating, quoting, binding of coverage, and policy issuance. You can also cancel, renew, non-renew, and endorse submissions.
    Note: Underwriting Management is the name of both the underwriting application specifically and the full underwriting solution, which includes the underwriting, agent, administrator, and operator feature sets.
  • UM Agent is a portal through which agents create and monitor submissions.
  • UM Studio is a portal through which Administrators and Business Analysts manage forms, rules, users, roles, notifications, and other settings for the system.
  • UM Operator Console is a portal through which system operators can manage and monitor the Underwriting Management application.
The following optional components and modules are also available for Underwriting Management:
  • AppReader simplifies and accelerates the submission process with accurate uploads of detailed, and often complicated, risk information. AppReader is an agency connectivity solution for agents and underwriters to upload submissions, regardless of the agency management system, and without proprietary networks or transaction fees. The solution easily and reliably converts PDFs or images of ACORD applications and other forms to ACORD XML for upload directly into your underwriting workflow and your processing environment for new business and renewals. Combining AppReader with the Email Receiver, users can completely automate initial submission creation and application data extraction to significantly shorten submission intake time.
  • Email Receiver monitors emails sent to a defined address and forwards the information in an email to AppReader to create a new submission.
  • UM Email Add-in is the Guidewire UM Outlook Add-In that works within Microsoft Outlook to enable email integration with Underwriting Management.
