Chat with another user

Procedure

  1. With a submission open, click the Collaboration icon , which displays to the right of the Actions menu.
  2. Click the Chat icon.
    The chat window shows all of the chat messages associated with that submission. The messages are sorted by date and time, with most recent first. If you want to continue with an existing conversation, select a message. The Chat icon indicates whether any users who are associated with the submission are online. The black icon with a green dot indicates that other users associated with the submision are online, and the gray icon with a gray dot indicates that no other users associated with the submission are online.
  3. To view the list of users who are online, click the Chat icon with a green dot . From here, you can also invite other users who are not associated with the submission to join the chat by clicking Invite Others and then
  4. To invite additional users to join the chat, click Invite Others from the bottom of the list of users who are online (after you click the Chat icon ., select one or more recipients from the People list, replace the default invitation with a personalized message, if desired, and then click Invite.
    Recipients receive your invitation in their notifications. If they were not already associated with the submission, they do not become permanent members of the chat. For more information, refer to Notifications.
  5. After you have started a chat, type a message in the Send a message box (at the bottom of the chat window) and press Enter.
    After you send a chat message, you cannot revise or delete it.
  6. Optional: If you want to show or hide a chat message in the All view, click the down-arrow on the right end of the message and select either Show in All View or Remove from All View.
    A green square icon () next to the date and time of the message indicates that a message is included in the All view.
